Power tool reviews

So to begin, this blog will be a forum to discuss woodworking, power tools, chest hair, and anything else manly I can think of. To start, anyone have any thoughts on the Ridgid R1330 thickness planer? I'm running rough oak through and either the infeed rollers won't pull the work through or they are slipping on the top of the wood. Any thoughts or suggestions....

    One word, wax, wax, wax....Ok thats like 5 words or something. Plus the smoother and dryer the surface of the wood against the rollers, the harder it is for them to get a bite.

    The Ridgid R1330 is a machine for smoothing wood by shaving off a layer of the surface a small amount at a time. It, like most other planers, has a round cutterhead in between 2 rubber rollers. You feed the wood under 1 roller, its pushes the wood past the cutterhead, to be grabbed by the other roller and ejected from the machine, slightly thinner than before. The most I'm able to take off at a time with this machine is 1/64". This makes planing take a little while. The more I use it, the more I suspect that it is too underpowered for the work I am doing. However, with a 90 day satisfaction guarantee from Home Depot, they give you plenty of time to make a decision.
